Global Women's Project

Since 1974 the Global Women's Project has worked to advance gender justice and women's economic, social and political opportunity. As economic integration, guided by liberalization in trade and investment and domestic deregulation, progresses, inequality between nations and within countries has grown. Women and other marginalized groups too often bear the brunt of these dislocations. Economic and social justice is frustrated. For this reason, the Global Women's Project has committed itself to critically analyzing current economic policies and developing a new approach that puts social concerns at the center of economic policy-making.

The Global Women's Project uses the lenses of gender, race and class to analyze the effects of political, economic and social policies on women-and men-and to advocate for changes that better bring about social justice. The Global Women's Project approaches questions of women's human rights and equity through a long tradition of research, theological reflection, advocacy, outreach, popular education and coalition building.

The work of the Global Women's Project is detailed on the following pages:

  • Women and the Global Economy
Women fit into and are impacted by the macro-economy in a number of ways. However, Women's concerns remain ignored in policy-making and not enough attention has been given to gender analysis of markets and institutions, thus resulting in worsening inequalities between women and men.
  • Women, Spirituality and Faith-based Values
The Global Women's project recognizes the importance and power of religion and spirituality in women's lives and in our own as we work toward a transformed world and faith tradition.
  • Networks, Partnerships and Coalition Building
Globalization, global economic integration and the technology driving them continue to create new challenges and opportunities which can only be met by working in and through international and domestic partnerships. Our niche is to bring gender analysis and a feminist perspective into the wider movements.
